    Paging Rock Music

    'Member pagers?

Anyway, this is not an original topic, let's get that out of the way up front. We gay? I was inspired by this article-- http://www.rollingstone.com/music/ne...nswer-20160122

The "Now That's What I Call-" series is coming out with their first rock compilation. This is the track list.

Bring Me The Horizon - Throne
    Shinedown - Cut The Cord
Fall Out Boy - Uma Thurman
    Royal Blood - Little Monster
    Seether - Words As Weapons
Cage The Elephant - Mess Around
The Struts - Could Have Been Me
Imagine Dragons - I Bet My Life
    Cold War Kids - First
Walk The Moon - Shut Up And Dance
    X Ambassadors - Renegades
Chris Cornell - Nearly Forgot My Broken Heart
Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats - S.O.B
    Elle King - Ex's & Oh's
Florence & The Machine - Ship To Wreck
    Borns - Electric Love
    Breaking Benjamin - Failure
Red Sun Rising - The Otherside

    Florence and the Machine? Rock?

And back to the article's first paragraph, Coldplay, rock?

But let's make this thread less complaining and "back in my day" and more of a showcase of the true rock that's still out there rocking.

Here's recent stuff that I dig

    Gary Clark Jr

    Benjamin Booker

    Foxy Shazam, 2012, new enough

King Khan's stuff (BBQ Show and The Shrines) and The Black Lips my favorite legit rock bands going right now. Benjamin Booker is rad. I saw him at a show a few months ago.

DKB is not a haven for Rockers.
Let me just get these points out of the way though...

    - People should at least...at least, have the decency to call Coldplay, "Pop".
    Come on.
Coldplay has never "Rocked-Out" one time in their lives.
    Comeonnow.
I've seen them "Rocking Out" live...
and it had all of the Rock Power of Andrew Lloyd Webber.

the true rock that's still out there rocking
    Mee....

    It's over.
    Let it go.

I can tell you what I've heard that has true Rock staying power and isn't from "back in the day".
But it's now to the point, THAT stuff is "back in the day".
There's nothing but stacks of back-in-the-days.
And it did not used to be that way.

You used to like The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, The Cars and AC/DC and Michael Jackson and Ozzy Osbourne and The Cult.
Rock was still alive in the '90s because: Soundgarden + STP.
And tiny slivers of Nu Metal were really just Rock and Roll with trace amounts of techno/rap mutations.

I noticed the eyes rolling back in Rock and Roll's head,
    the labored breathing...
right around the same time I was feeling dismayed that this shitshow called, "American Idol" was becoming mega-popular.
Sure enough, I looked it up and American Idol started in 2002.

It was looking like it was going to be all right,
    (not "Great", but all right)

...like it was just a cultural downturn,
like when New Kids on the Block or even Vanilla Ice, got big,

    because of,

    and

    and

So let's say, it was slightly okay, up to like 2005?

But if you look at what developed over the past TEN years?

    It's done.

Now you get to listen to people saying,
"There's always good music. You just have to find it. "
    But that's the death.
    "I think she's dead."
    "No!, wait....listen...SHHH...listen, I can...I think I still hear a faint heartbeat!"

In the '70s if you wanted to check out good, new-or-contemporary music, you just turned on the radio and flipped around for a second.

In the 80's if you wanted to hear good music, you already were watching Mtv all day.

In the '90s, I just turned on The Box and that was like "The '90s" to me...just the Box playlist.

Now, I scan youtube like crazy and find like 1 good song out of every 500,000.

Now that I've got that out of the way, if I hear any faint lifesigns...gurgles, I will report them here.

So in Wilhelm's mind, rock is on life support, the doctors say there's no chance, and I just can't pull the plug

Granted Wilhelm, no one is as picky with rock as you are. But it is pretty telling that we're in an era, probably the first since...1940? 50? That you can listen to a top 40 radio station all day, and not hear any rock.

Don't tell me Fallout Boy or Weeknd's MJ ripping. Top 40 does not recognize rock as alive.

The new Iggy Pop sounds like it is probably a new Desert Sessions.

    hmm

    Horrid
    Lifeless
    Sounds like Leonard Cohen

The best thing about it was the comment,
Wait Iggy is wearing a shirt? Madness!

Sorry, Mr. Literal. I meant the way it was recorded reminds me of how Desert Sessions was recorded. Homme took various musicians from random bands and had them go to his place in the desert to do drugs and record music.

No, ben. We're talking about music not behind-the-scenes recording methodology.
Perfectly reasonable to hear, like, "probably like the new Sgt. Peppers" and think it's about quality of music.

    Ok,

    Love to dad...
